Skip Sampson has been tattooing for over 16 years, and has over 20 years experience in the industry itself. Skip started tattooing in New York at a family-owned shop and moved to Tampa in 1997. In 2005, he opened 1603 Tattoo and Piercing Co. in the center of Ybor City. By creating a comfortable, family-like atmosphere in his studio with a great crew of artists, piercers, and staff, Skip has changed the way people view and feel inside of the typical tattoo shop. Skip’s style of tattooing includes a wide variety of oriental-based designs, portraits, and pin-up girls with strong clean lines. He prefers black and gray shading with white highlights to make an image really stand out above the rest. Skip promotes “client awareness” by working with and writing for local and national radio stations and magazines to inform people of what they should consider when deciding to get a tattoo and what they should expect from their artist and studio. Skip continues his work as a graphic designer designing logos and merchandise for major companies and bands, and leaves the painting and airbrushing for his peaceful time at home.   “The best part of tattooing for me is the clients; their stories and their experiences have shaped my own life in ways I would have never found anywhere else. Being able to do what I love, art and drawing for my clients, I become a part of their life forever.”  -Skip Sampson

(I guess you can call this a "mission statment"... )

.." I like to have my clients come in and "hang out " for a bit around the shop to see what we are all like , see how we function as a team in the shop. YES I do run behind and I take my breaks at odd times in the day, I have also been tattooing for OVER 16 years and my brain and body know when its that time, so I take it, when it comes.

This is not the Union or a cubicle with a boss telling me to take my half hour now! , somedays I dont even get that half hour. I do not rush a client or a tattoo, if it takes longer to make it "work" then it backs my day up..its part of life. Sometimes we run late in traffic , sometimes the dog takes off down the street and your late leaving to work.. and sometimes you as a client are late getting to your appointment because your plane was late getting in and you couldnt call cause you were in the air and cell phones cant be turned on ! ( I've heard them all ) and its OK !, I will still be here to do your tattoo, you will call me when you can and I will let you know Im behind and hour or so,because the person in the chair before you deserved the extra time I spent, making them, as happy as I could about what they are asking from me. So grab some coffee.. or take a short walk around Ybor and always feel free to hang out in the shop as you wait it out. Its never that bad or meant to disrespect anyone, make yourself comfortable.

If you want it done like a "factory", this may not be the right shop for you. I (we) take our time no matter how long it is to do things right , from the time I sit with you to talk , to the time I spend thinking of how to accomplish your design, the second before you sit in my chair, has all been about your tattoo".

.. besides, lifes to short to RUSH IT !

>S.
